The Abandoned The Graveyard Queen Book 4 edition by Amanda Stevens Paranormal Romance eBooks
The Abandoned is an ebook prequel to forthcoming Graveyard Queen series by Amanda Stevens. It serves as a perfect introduction to the world that Stevens has created. The prequel gives you a taste of what you can expect from the the series, but only a taste. The first book in the series takes the foundation that Stevens has laid here and ramps it up significantly. With The Abandoned, the reader is introduced to cemetery restorer, Amelia Gray, police office Devlin, and several other characters that play a huge part in The Restorer (the first book of the series). The main focus her is Ree, a student volunteering at a mental hospital. When one of her patients dies, Ree finds herself wrapped up in a conspiracy and in a new world that she doesn't understand. Using another character other than Amelia (the main focus of the series) works as a perfect way to start establishing the world, but not so much that a reader who skips the prequel will miss anything when they read the first book.
The Abandoned is light on the ghostly aspects. As I said, it gives you just a taste of what's to come. In the short span of the prequel, Stevens introduces compelling characters and an interesting mystery. I highly recommend this for anyone looking for a good ghost story, and for fans of Heather Graham!

The Abandoned The Graveyard Queen Book 4 edition by Amanda Stevens Paranormal Romance eBooks Reviews
This is related as a prequel for series character Amelia Grey. However, we merely glimpse her here and she does no play an integral role in this novellette. Devlin is mentioned here (and shows in next) - but, again, he is a bit player in this tale. The Order of Coffin & Claw is alluded to and hints related to sacrifices made - but it seems like is merely a "given" in both without any real backstory or fleshing to that plot device. Thus the three stars over 4.
In this tale a gal (Ree) stumbles upon a private conversations while delivering a folder to a doctor at the mental hospital she volunteers at. A favorite patient of hers had passed and the conversation overheard relates to same while hinting at nefarious activity at hospital related to this passed patient and perhaps even her mother. Ree gets nervy at what she hears and then encounters some events that further cause her to worry. There is a patient who can see the unseen and she is dismissed for her mental health diagnosis. Ree continues to experience weird events that bring her (literally) into the arms of a ghost hunter. They connect and work to solve the events occurring by visiting Amelia and investigating. I hate to sound so vague - but do not want to give spoilers.
I did not relate well to Ree - she did not feel substantial as character. I felt that things happened TO her - rather than WITH her. Hayden was fleshed better and the story was a bit predictible and without surprise (I found no twists) . Yet was good read that many will enjoy.
This particular piece is not necessary to read prior to the series with Amelia. Recommend author.

I don't know how to rate this novella. On its own, I'd give it a 4/5 because it's a really great read that will have you reeling after it concludes. It's very short, but packed with suspense and is extremely creepy. It does leave the reader with many questions though, but as it's a prequel, I was under the impression that the answers would be revealed in The Restorer. This, unfortunately, is not the case. Actually, the prequel and The Restorer seem to have little in common aside from the fact that Oak Grove Cemetery is a hotspot for activity, Amelia and Devlin are characters in both stories, and there is a mysterious group of elite that go by the name of The Order of the Coffin and the Claw. Yet, neither Amelia nor Devlin play a big part in the prequel, as they do in The Restorer, and The Order is never fully explained in either text. While the cemetery is eluded too through unexplained events, that too is vaguely touched upon in the prequel. Instead, The Abandoned deals with two main characters, Ree and Hayden--a student and a paranormal investigator. While the story surrounding these two characters is interesting and even frightening, it is not fully concluded, and these characters and events are never mentioned in The Restorer, making me wonder what the real purpose of the novella plays in the series. It is apparent that those in The Order of the Coffin and the Claw take part in scary rituals and delve in the dark arts, covering up for each other, but anything beyond that is still a mystery.
I really did like the novella but, after having read The Restorer, I am saddened that there is not more of a connection between the two stories. Of course, I suggest reading The Abandoned, but keep in mind that it really isn't a precursor of events in the main novel and, therefore, not mandatory to understand The Restorer. Either way, I did enjoy The Abandoned; I just wish it had more to do with the actual story in The Restorer.
Currently, The Abandoned is a free download at most eBook sellers online, though I don't know how long that will last--perhaps only until The Restorer releases on April 26th. I highly suggest picking it up, especially since it's free--you can always read it later on, either before or after The Restorer. Three and a half stars for this novella!
